What is Chickenlip?

I've been spending some time lately pondering exactly what Chickenlip is.

I'm not really talking about what a Chickenlip is to us (a curly brace like { or } ), but what Chickenlip's role, as a company, is in the grand scheme of things.

We provide a lot of services to our customers: everything from technical support to networking to training to database & application development to video production to websites to internet services and more.

Chickenlip was started, first and foremost, as a software development company. While we were trying to break into the market, we kept ourselves busy by providing technical support to customers. The word spread that we knew what we were doing and were good at what we were doing that we ended up getting more and more clients solely by word of mouth.

In 2005, about 4 years after we started Chickenlip, the technical support work we were doing was bringing in more revenue than the development work we intended to complete. In 2008 the revenue was about 50/50.

I don't want clients to think that we don't want to do the technical support work, because we do. It's a challenge trying to figure out how to accomplish a goal of streamlining a company's business processes and to ensure that a company can grow unhindered from their technology limitations.

This is something we should be looking at inwardly for ourselves. Have we set up ourselves appropriately so that our business processes can be effective enough so we can be effective and efficient for our clients?

Maybe I'm having moments of realization that Chickenlip's place in the world isn't to solely develop software. Maybe Chickenlip, as a company, is supposed to be as enigmatic as the company's name.

One thing I know for certain is that this is something that we need to figure out.
